National Geographic magazine has an unfortunate habit of regularly publishing inaccurate and intemperate articles about Israel, which have falsely blamed Israel for expelling Palestinians, for being responsible for declines in the Arab Christian population (which has actually increased in Israel), for discriminating against ערביי ישראל, and for oppressing Bethlehem. To this list of false accusations the magazine has now added stealing Palestinian and Syrian water, as alleged in Parting the Waters, part of the magazine’s April 2010 Water Issue.

המאמר, מאת דון בלט (שכתב את הדו"ח הקודם על שקיעת הערבים הנוצרים), בולט בהישג מפוקפק - יש הטעיה עוד לפני שהטקסט של המאמר מתחיל בפועל.

בתמונת הפתיחה, שבה נראים זוג ישראלים על חוף הכנרת, יש כיתוב המטען "מאז 1967 ישראל חסמה את הגישה של סוריה לקו החוף של האגם".

נכון טכנית, אבל יחד עם זאת מטעה ביותר. מה שחגורה לא מספר לקוראיו הוא שהשליטה הסורית בקו החוף המזרחי לפני 1967 הייתה הפרה הן של הגבול הבינלאומי בין ישראל לסוריה, והן של הסכם שביתת הנשק מ-1949 בין המדינות.
